I am back at it again, this time with a new company. In looking at their product structure I see they have been using minor revisions on parts and documents. I have setup a test environment with the latest version of Innovator (9.2) and was surprised to see not much has changed with the way it handles revisions.
We would like to have various revisions schema’s to cover Engineering release vs manufacturing release for the same item type. Now I see that with version 9.2, I can assign different lifecycle to a single itemtype based on classification, but this does not allow for different revision.
I will use different lifecycle maps to control access rights (permissions) based on an Engineering release vs Manufacturing release. Full product configuration management will be applied to manufacturing release and a limited configuration management to engineering release.
I would like Engineering to control prototypes by revision schema such as X.0 , X.1, X.2 etc where X would represent Proto builds and 1.0, 1.2, 1.3 would be for manufacturing release.
From what I can tell I will have to configure Innovator to display a custom field for revision and build into the workflows a script to handle major/minor revision changes.
What have others done to handle Engineering vs Manufacturing release?
Thanks for all feed back
