SUPPORT Q&A - Compatibility of the Environmental Compliance package

T_Bouten - Tuesday, October 12, 2010 5:08 AM:

I do a research to different environmental compliance packages as a student Mechanical Engineering of the University of Twente (The Netherlands). I read about the Environmental Compliance package of Aras at the site, but I have a few questions about it.

  • Is the use of this package only possible with the use of the Aras Innovator PLM solution or is it also possible to use this solution in combination with other PLM systems (like Siemens Teamcenter) or CAD systems (like PTC CoCreate OneSpace Designer)
  • Which commercial databases could you link to the package
  • How much informatioin does the engineer have to add before he gets the environmental compliance status of a CAD-model
  • How well could you perform an analysis of a product when the databases are not fully complete

Hi T-Bouten,

Consider the Compliance solution as a template and data model with interesting ideas for compliance management.  You can of course adapt these ideas to Teamcenter or Windchill if you are a good programmer,   but this solution was developed of course for the Aras Innovator environment.     It might also be possible for a company using TeamCenter for PDM,  to also use Aras for PLM and Compliance processes.    Integration of PDM -to- PLM shold not be too difficult.

I have just finished a prototype development integration with the commercial database from Part Miner  www.partminer.com .    Easy integration,  and the performance is very fast.    We will expand this integration in the future to include compliance data (RoHS and Halogen), PCN's, forecasted EOL, and many other tools for component management.     The Part Miner database also has information about pricing and availability,  and there are some tools for managing the RFP process for purchasing components.

When we make the dashboard for product compliance analysis,  we must allow for in-complete information,  It is better to have early feedback on the design,  even with some information missing.     This development work is not completed,  but I guess you can see in which direction we are heading.

Peter.
