I was installing the sdns.exe and in the course of the installation I got the following message:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled

Process id=0x1164 (4452), Thread id=0x116c (4460)

Click OK to terminate the application.

Click cancel to debug the application

And then I click cancel I get an other error message.

No debugger found.

Do you have the .NET framework installed on this client machine?

If not, here is the URL to the .NET 2.0 framework.

Sorry, my mistake.

This error message is shown because you attempted to run the file without downloading it first.

You need to download the file (sdns.exe) to your local hard drive before running it.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your responses.  I think that there is misunderstanding in what is going on. This error occured during the downloading of sdns.exe file, so I was not even at the running stage.  Your help is very much appreciated.

Happy I could help.  We have updated the Troubleshooting section of the Aras Innovator - .NET Client Configuration document to help other with the same issue.  This new version of the document can be found at http://www.aras.com/support/documentation/documentation.aspx

For anyone else experiencing this problem the troubleshooting steps are as follows:

1. Open Internet Explorer

2. Type in the following web address

http://www.aras.com/support/downloads/download.aspx

3. Download the "Manual .NET Security Config Tool [sdns.exe utility]" to your

hard drive

a. Right-Click on the Download Now button next to the tool description, so

that the context menu appears.

b. Select "Save Target As..."

c. The desktop will be the easiest location to download to and find the file

later.

OS: Windows XP Professional SP3

IE: 6.0 SP3

At first the client had .Net framwork 1.1、2.0、3.5, but we setup sdns.exe occur error as provious post mention,

After check IE setup and install steps is follow documents , we thought  the error maybe is .Net framwork 3.5  to cause..

so we un-install all .Net framwork 1.1、2.0、3.5 , and only  install  .Net framwork 2.0 to the client , but the error is the same..

Now .NET version : 2.0

So, you did the following?

1) Download the sdns.exe to your local hard drive.  (Lets say the root of your C: drive, for example C:\sdns.exe)

2) You open "My Computer" and browse to this folder (C:\)

3) You double-click on the file to run the executable

--> Error appears.

Well, I don't recognize the error specifically, but let me take you down all logical paths:

1) Please confirm that you have .NET 2.0 installed on the client XP Machine

2) The error message you posted earlier says that sdns.exe is being executed from the D:\ drive, and .NET is installed on the C:\ drive.  Please move the tool to the C:\ drive and try executing from there.

3) Try downloading a fresh copy of the tool.

4) Try executing a repair  on .NET from Add/Remove Programs
