    Adding viewer????????

    Hello:

I’m sure this is a relatively easy fix, but I need to view 3D proe files. I am trying to add ProductView to Innovator.

The simplest fix is to add the File Type to Innovator and simply allow the client to use a local viewer to open the file.

    1) Log into Innovator as an administrative user

    2) From the TOC select Administration\FileTypes

    3) From the main toolbar select New Item

    4) In the Viewer form, fill in the following values

    a. Name - Name of the file type

    b. Ext. - File extention (bat, html, jpg, etc)

    c. Mime type - mime type for the given file extension

    5) Save, Unlock, and Close

    Re: Adding viewer????????

If you wish to add a new Viewer on the server:

    1) Log into Innovator as an administrative user

    2) From the TOC select Administration\Viewers

    3) From the main toolbar select New Item

    4) In the Viewer form, fill in the following values

    a. Name = Name of the viewer

    b. Description = Description of the viewer

    c. Viewer URL = URL to the viewer.  Any viewers shuld be installed under the \Innovator\Client\scripts\viewers folder, and the URL can be called from there as something like viewers/Aras.html

    5) Save, Unlock, and Close

To then associate the new viewer with the file type:

    1) Log into Innovator as an administrative user

    2) From the TOC select Administration\File Type

    3) Edit the File Type

    4) Select the View With relationship tab

    5) From the relationship toolbar, select New Relationship

    a. Search for and select the new viewer.

    b. Select green checkmark "Return Selected" button from the search dialog toolbar.

    6) Save, Unlock, and Close

    Hope this helps!

When you say "installed under the \Innovator\Client\scripts\viewers folder" you obviously don't  mean physically installed there, right?  The only files physically located in that folder are HTML files.  I'm assuming they contain scripts to call the default viewers associated with the file extension.  But are those viewers local on the clients machine?   I have another viewer for CAD files that I'd like to have on the server for those users who don't have CAD modeling software.  Our IT policy prevents users from installing apps so even if they wanted to download the viewer from a third party they couldn't install it.  How can I "install" it on the server?  Is it as simple as creating a specific HTML file for the viewer?

     Thanks,

    Nate K

    Re: Adding viewer????????

This comes down to the individual viewer software.  If it has a component that must be automatically downloaded and installed Aras Innovator won't get around that.  There does need to be some URL to connect to this software, but I can't say what that would be not having seen the product you have.
