APPLICATION - PRODUCT ENGINEERING - Revision control for software and firmware

Ron - Wednesday, June 20, 2007 2:39 PM:

A question has been raised  as to how will Innovator manage the major and minor revisions for software and firmware? Currently the standard is for the use of both minor and major revision such as 2.0.1 Has anyone figured out a way to control this type of product/documentation?

Looking for advice.

Thanks

Ron

Hi.

From the documentation (www.aras.com/.../Basic_Admin_Navigation.pdf):

...Major_Rev and Generation are used to keep track of the revisions of an Item when Versioning is enabled....

So,  major revision and generation are managed automatically (per the documentation). Note: major revision sequence may be customized using Revisions property of an Item Type (just create a new custom revision, for example First Second Third, and assign it to an Item Type).

Minor_rev property is reserved for a future release.

Major_rev property may be used also to have "the standard" revision. See the example to have major_rev customized: aras.comhttp:/.../293.aspx.

Another way to organize "the standard" revision is to have custom property and manage it using custom events.
