Aras vs. MatrixOne - How do they compare

Hi there,

ENOVIA Live Collaboration (aka eMatrix) supports not only Oracle and DB2 nowadays, but MySQL and MSSQL as well.

Also separating the different task of system/DB/replication setup (system), Business Modelling and command line tool (MQL) in separated tools is not a bad thing at all.

Think about the fact, that in server world, there are many companies using platforms besides MS. So the only missing major DB platform for ENOVIA is PostgreSQL today. So from a flexibility perspective of free choice regarding the server OS platform, ENOVIA is miles ahead from a software, which is bound to 1 server os and 1 DB platform.

We are not talking about the client side.

OK, I have a biased look, since we are using MatrixOne technology for more then 10 years now.

But the flexibility - besides buzz words like SOA (is there anybody who has a *real* SOA based IT today???), the platform is still the best. From my history I know many PDM / PLM systems, and the choice back then was still right.

I don't think you got the OO and JPO approach right. There is no need for any server restart if one is using only JPO based code.

One of the big advantages of MatrixOne has always been the Dynamic Business Modelling kernel, where you can change the data model without any interruption of business.

Still I'll give Innovator a try.

Cheers

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for your comments on this. And to answer your specific questions ...

1) Support of different OS and databases : I agree with you on that Aras currently support only  MS paltform. But its just a start. I hope

they will support different OS and databases in the future. But of course that should not be a constraint until otherwise any

organization inclined towards specific OS and Database.

2) Your comment : There is no need for any server restart if one is using only JPO based code.

My Comment :  Java,JSP used for code changes. Server restart is required in case of any JAR file modifications.

Please read my comments again. Server restart is required for any kind of JAR file modifications. I didnt talk about  server restart for JPO

changes here.

And moreover i am a Matrixone certified application developer and i know in and out of the complete Matrixone system. Of course its a

great tool but it has several drawbacks in terms of customizations. Any kind of customization will need lot of efforts and thus directly

impact on your upgradation time, effort and cost. This is major pain area for lot of customers.

May be i suggest you to have a look at Aras Innovator product  and i am sure  your perception may change towards Aras PLM.

Cheers,

Srinivas
