How to create the Azure Certified Aras Innovator virtual machine

This section shows you how to create an Azure Certified Aras Innovator VM. You can use Azure's default settings for most of the configuration and create the VM in just a few minutes. You may also perform similar steps in the Azure Management Portal.

  1. Go to the Azure Marketplace. NOTE: You will need an Azure Subscription to create a VM.
  2. On the marketplace menu, find Aras Innovator among the Virtual Machine offerings or type "Aras" in the search dialog to go directly to the Aras offering.

    Click the Aras Innovator offering to begin creating the Virtual Machine

  3. Click Create Virtual Machine to begin the process of creating the Aras VM. NOTE: Please review the pricing and sizing information on this screen by scrolling below. You will be required to choose the VM with a preset amount of processing power and memory in the next step.

  4. On the Aras Innovator PLM Suite pane select the appropriate deployment model and choose create. NOTE: We have chosen Classic in this example

  5. In the Create VM pane, fill in the Host Name you want for the VM, the administrative User Name, and a strong Password. Choose the appropriate Pricing Tier. NOTE: D13 is appropriate for 100 user Pilot/POC. D14 would provide additional power.

    NOTE:

    User Name refers to the administrative account that you use to manage the server. Create a unique password for this account and make sure to remember it. You'll need the user name and password to log on via remote desktop to the virtual machine.

  6. To use the default settings for the remaining VM options and start creating the VM, click Create. But if you want, before clicking Create, you can explore Optional Configuration settings. For example, you can configure optional diagnostics on the VM to track lots of metrics on your VM later on. Click Optional Configuration, click Diagnostics, and toggle the Status to On.

    NOTE:

    If you turn on Azure Diagnostics, Azure will store the diagnostics data in an Azure storage account, resulting in additional storage cost.

  7. Click on your VM and then click Settings. In the Settings blade click Endpoints and click Add. Enter the following values for the fields:
    • Endpoint: HTTP
    • Protocol: Select TCP
    • Public port: 80
    • Private port: 80

    Click OK to create an HTTP endpoint on port 80.

  8. NOTE:

    If you get the "Failed to add virtual machine endpoint 'HTTP' “ error, use the following steps to add the HTTP endpoint:

    1. Go to http://manage.windowsazure.com. Click on Virtual Machines. Find the one you just created and click on it.

    2. Click on Endpoints. Click ADD at the bottom of the screen.

    3. Select ADD A STAND-ALONE ENDPOINT. Click the Right Arrow.

    4. From the name field, select HTTP. The remaining fields auto-populate. Click the checkmark icon.

  9. Your Aras Azure Certified is now ready for use.

How to Login to your Aras Azure Certified instance

  1. Open an Internet Explorer 9, 10 or 11 browser or Firefox ESR 31 and higher browser.

    NOTE:

    For Internet Explorer, first make sure you have the recommended Client Settings by following Aras Innovator 11.0 - Client Settings for Internet Explorer on Windows.pdf

  2. Go to <your Azure domain name>/InnovatorServer
  3. Select the myData database (default) and use admin/innovator to login and remember to change your password immediately:
    1. Click on the Table of Contents -> Users.
    2. Do a Simple Search for all Users.
    3. Find Innovator Admin and right-click -> Edit.
    4. Change the password and click Save, Unlock and Close (Checkmark) icon.
