Traditional PLM Headaches

Traditional PLM Headaches

For 30 years, CIOs have dealt with proprietary, closed product lifecycle management technology that's costly to own and grow, too complicated to use, impossible to upgrade, and far too resource intensive to maintain. Not anymore.

Aras Is Open For Business

Aras Is Open For Business

We provide the control and flexibility you desperately need with the assurance you require for business-critical solutions.

Uniquely among PLM solution providers, Aras has an open architecture which features an open data model, open interfaces and use of open Web standards.

To learn about our commitment to Openness, read the Aras ProSTEP iViP Code of PLM Openness (CPO).

Open Software

To customize or extend traditional PLM applications you have to use the vendor’s published API. But without detailed knowledge of the internal workings of the application you are working blind, adding cost and risk to your implementation.

Aras takes a different approach – we make the source of our applications available to you so you can modify it directly – saving you time and reducing project risk. In fact, you’ll have the same access as our in-house developers do. And because changes at the application level don’t impact the core Platform services, you’ll still be able to upgrade to the next release without any headaches.

Open Data Model

Open Data Model

With other PLM systems, changes to the data model may be complicated by the lack of a published data model.

With Aras the data model is fully visible and can be quickly and easily changed to meet your business needs using the in-built modeling tools (the same ones our in-house developers use), without compromising the ability to upgrade to a newer release.

Open Interfaces and Web Standards

Aras was built on the Web and for systems that require access to data or files stored in Aras we offer a complete set of open Web services. You can interface directly using XML/SOAP, or you can create a WSDL (Web Services Description Language) for the specific business objects you want to interface with.

For integrations not using web services, the Aras Innovator Object Model (IOM) is a comprehensive, documented and freely distributed DLL version of the API for use in environments such as Visual Studio or VBA. In addition, Aras supports all the .NET data exchange methods.

Integration capabilities available in Aras Innovator include ODBC, ADO, flat file or direct API. Use of integration infrastructure (EAI/ESB) such as Oracle Fusion, BizTalk, Mule Sonic and other integration hubs/buses is also supported.

All Aras interfaces are fully documented, maintained and are fully compatible between revisions. Our published interfaces are equally available to customers, partners and open users without restriction and are the same as used by our internal developers.
