Syracuse Research Corporation to Implement Aras Innovator For PLM

Improving Quality Management through Online Control of "As Built" Production Information and Support for Continuous Improvement

LAWRENCE, MASS. - December 16, 2003 - Aras Corporation, a provider of enterprise Product Lifecycle Management [PLM] solutions, announced today that Syracuse Research Corporation [SRC] of Syracuse, NY has selected the Aras InnovatorTM Suite for enterprise-wide PLM deployment to achieve improved manufacturing control over "as built" manufacturing information. SRC is a leading provider of technology programs of national significance. They support a broad range of government organizations including the Departments of Defense, Energy, State, and Transportation, to name a few. SRC also provides technical assistance to numerous agencies, such as the EPA, OSHA, and the National Science Foundation. Current high profile SRC programs include the Light Weight Counter Mortar Radar (LCMR) and the AN/ PPS-5D Portable Ground Surveillance Radar, both used by the US Army.

"We needed a solution that is flexible enough to accommodate the inherent changes our customers are requiring as we scale up our manufacturing volumes," indicated Al Lock, Director of Engineering at SRC. "Aras Innovator provides us with strong out-of-the-box functionality at a reasonable cost. It will also allow us to quickly modify our business processes to support our growth and continuous improvement activities."

The Aras Innovator Suite provides discrete manufacturers with comprehensive PLM functionality that spans project and program management, design and development, tooling, supply chain sourcing, manufacturing, and Total Quality Management. With Innovator product-related information is managed through product development, release to manufacturing, throughout production, and across the supply chain for complete "as built" traceability including Enterprise Change Orders based on the Institute of Configuration Management's CMII principles.

"Aras Innovator gives us an effective way to collect 'as built' information during production while controlling changes to our parts lists, Bills Of Material, and manufacturing routings throughout the production process," said Greg Low, AN/PPS-5D Project Engineer at SRC. "By using Innovator's online workflow we will be reducing our cycle time and administrative costs and improving our overall manufacturing efficiencies."

Innovator's comprehensive application functionality is driven by a next- generation Internet application framework called the Aras InnovatorTM Engine which enables customers to deploy quickly, adapt easily, and scale rapidly. Innovator provides customers with unparalleled flexibility to modify applications without programming driving rapid results and a significantly lower Total Cost of Ownership than conventional PLM systems.

"We recognize that manufacturers need comprehensive functionality today combined with flexibility to easily adapt in the future," said Peter Schroer, chief technology officer of Aras. "Companies that anticipate changing business conditions understand that conventional systems are too complex and costly over time. Aras Innovator provides savvy businesses like SRC with powerful functionality to manage business processes effectively and the flexibility to easily address new market conditions."
