As the global economy stabilizes, companies around the world are kicking off new initiatives to further cut costs and improve competitiveness. Now is clearly the time to review strategies and figure out how to reducing expenses to help profitability.

The people I'm talking to are telling me that's why they are working on Aras projects and replacing their legacy PLM systems which can save 50% or more.

The energy and the results are undeniable. New initiatives, new savings, new benefits, new training, it's all happening right now! Join the action and help transform your company in the process.

MAJOR NEW BENEFIT - Upgrade Services Now Included in Aras Subscription
This month we made what some might call a "revolutionary advancement" for enterprise PLM software; we added Bundled Upgrade Services into the Aras Unlimited subscription package for NO additional cost.

Yes, you read that right... now New Releases and Service Packs, including the latest security updates, hot fixes, and enhancements which are available to subscribers, are installed without additional consulting service costs. Even heavily customized systems with extensive modifications will be upgraded without additional cost.

The new upgrade services represent an estimated value of $30,000 to $45,000 or more per year.

This is unheard of... If you have any question about how much value we're talking about, we suggest trying to negotiating this as a fixed price component of your maintenance contract with Oracle, PTC, Dassault, or one of the other major enterprise PLM systems providers. Don't take it personally if they get angry or laugh :-)

So, if you're an active Aras subscriber, logon to the Aras support portal, contact Aras support, or get in touch with your local certified Aras partner to get the latest updates installed. Service Pack 3 was just released this week (more info on SP3 below).

NEW REGION - Aras in Japan and Japanese Translation
Exciting international news! Aras is now available in Japan with full support and complete Japanese translation.

Making all of this possible is Progress Partners, who we would like to welcome to the corporate community. Located in Tokyo, Progress Partners is a highly experienced, professional systems integrator for PLM. They are now providing comprehensive enterprise services and consulting to companies throughout Japan.

In fact, Progress Partner's CTO, Masahiko Hisatsugu, is the author of a PLM best seller in Japan (see picture) which can be purchased on Amazon.com. Note: If you're considering buying the book, be sure you can read Japanese.

If your company has significant operations in Japan and a Japanese language PLM system is important, then Aras is now a great fit.

Your business can run English and Japanese simultaneously so that people in the US see English and people in Japan see the same screens at the same time in Japanese.

This is another example of how the open approach promotes collaboration and innovation to advance the Aras solutions much more quickly than other major PLM systems. We are proud to have companies all over Japan now downloading and using the Aras solutions with expert services and support from Progress Partners. Check out Aras in Japan at: http://www.aras.jp/

NEWS - Bringing Open Source Advantages to Engineering
Earlier this month Aras President and Founder, Peter Schroer, wrote an editorial piece for NASA Tech Briefs on the advantages of the open approach in engineering and how these techniques are transforming product development and PLM software.

It's a really good overview of the benefits and impact of open innovation across the corporate landscape. Wanted to share some of his thoughts with you here and provide a link to the rest if interested.

Bringing Open Source Advantages to Engineering

As a career engineer, the need to coordinate large- scale design activity and all of the associated information has presented an ongoing challenge. In my opinion, one of the most exciting developments over the past decade has been the mainstream adoption of open source techniques.

In the R&D and engineering world, the open source trend is transforming how we work and is enabling new forms of collaboration...

The 21st Century's Internet enablement has changed what is possible, and now the global recession is driving these new approaches, like open source, throughout industry and government alike. The advantages of the open approach in engineering span both the technical and business spheres. From a technical perspective, collaborative development introduces new innovations with greater quality at a faster pace than previously possible. From a business standpoint, enterprise open source removes the license fees, thereby eliminating the capital expense and significantly reducing the total cost.

The flexibility and control inherent in the open model represent a fundamental shift away from the restrictions imposed by the conventional software mentality, which forces complexity, cost, and risk onto the customer...
