Yes, the process for checking out files has changed significantly since that blog post in 2009. In previous versions of Innovator, Files were editable items that could be checked-out, changed, and then checked back in. In current versions of Innovator, Files are now immutable and can not be edited.

In order to perform the same kind of process, you can simply follow the steps below.
&lt;ol&gt;
 	&lt;li&gt;Download the file in question&lt;/li&gt;
 	&lt;li&gt;Make any changes to the file from your local machine&lt;/li&gt;
 	&lt;li&gt;Replace the existing file property in Innovator with the updated file you have made&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;
Rather than changing the file, this will simply create a new File item with the changes you have made. The benefit to this is that you can look at older versions of an item and still see the older version of the File as well.
