Sorry for asking, but what property do I have to change so that the relationship behaviour is hard.

Probably caused when you use 'floating' behavior on your relationship (which would be standard OOTB behavior).

We can search and select older parts, but when we click on the DONE button it reverts to the latest generation.

Yes it should work. E.g. I have tested it when switching to AML search mode.

Does this work also for version 12? I have tried it and it always takes the latest version.

Hi,

by default, Aras will always pick the the latest generation of an Item. But we had the same requirement. We solved this one with a custom saved search so users have the possibilty to search for previous generations of an item:

<item_number condition="like">*1234*</item_number>
<id condition="is not null"/>
