I'd like to add another Type (classification) to the list of those selectable when creating a new Part... Assembly, Component, Material etc.

Is this straightforward, and if so, how do I do it?!

Many thanks

Turns out I hadn't locked the part for editing, and couldn't understand why right clicking didn't give me any options... cheers for the help.

To add a new class to the Part classification structure, you're going to edit the Part ItemType.

Login to Aras as an Administrator (ex: "admin" User)

Select Administration > ItemTypes in the Table of Contents (TOC).

Search for the Part ItemType.

Right click the Part ItemType and select Edit.

Click the Class Structure button on the Part ItemType form.

In the dialog that appears, right click on the root node and select Add SubClass to Part.

Enter your classification name into the new node.

Click the green checkmark icon to commit your change and close the dialog.

Save the Part ItemType.

Eli
