Integrating Azure Active Directory for User/ Group management

I want to use Azure Active directory to automatically update user accounts/ identities, and add or remove users to groups based on their permissions. Right now when a new employee is hired a user account is manually created in Aras and that person is manually added to the appropriate permission groups. Can this be done automatically using Azure Active Directory?

That is a really interesting question. I'm manually adding our users as well and even adding them to SSO directly. Our active directory is handled internally by another group but I'm sure this could be achieved with a group like you mentioned. Have you gotten anywhere on this?

Off the top of my head, I believe nothing is stopping you from utilizing one of our partner's CAD Connectors with the free version of Aras Innovator. I'd reach out to a partner like XPLM to see if they could help you.

I do have a requirement to delete unused files from vault , because it consumes memory . So I was trying to deleting files via server event which does not have any relationship . But I was not able to reach vault . Please help me to find a solution in this requirement.

The thread contains a post from Chris that shows how to discover orphaned files. You can modify his sample code to delete the orphaned files.

There is not ready-to-use code sample for "deleting files" available, cause there is an unspoken rule in this forum to not share potential dangerous code that can destroy some ones data. But it´s not hard to modify the query. I use something similar in my data base for cleanup and it works excellent.

Migrating the Configurations done using tp_block in ARAS Technical Documentation

Dear Team,

We have done bunch of configurations inside tp_block (ItemType) in ARAS Technical Documentation in our local environment.

We would like to migrate tp_block (ItemType) along with those configuration to another Development Environment in another server.

Someone told us, its not possible to do this; since tp_block is default ItemType created inside ARAS Technical documentation module and any changes/configurations made in specific local environment can't be migrated and overwritten to another Development Environment in another server.

Hence we need to manually redo the same changes/configurations in another Development Environment in another server.

Please clarify and confirm this is correct.

If its not correct, please suggest how this migration of tp_block can be accomplished.

Is it possible to create custom ConversionServer tasks without external DLL?

Hi community,

does anyone know if we can create custom ConversionServer without external DLLs?

I want to run some "export files" task in the background if the expected file size is very large. I right now use a Minerva extension for this task, but I want to replace it with an own solution. The tool will probably not work anymore after next update (I have no subscription...), so I want to be prepared for the future.

There are a few blog articles regarding creating custom ConversionServer DLLs. But I wonder if we can avoid the DLL at all?

I am able to create a custom ConversionTask, but the code inside is not executed yet. I mainly look for hints regarding how to build a proper "onConvert" Method that can be used in the ConversionRule.

Can anyone share some experience regarding this topic? If you have a solution but don´t want to share it in public (aká give it away for free): I would exchange a solution for this one with one of my own solution that you might be interested ! [emoticon:c4563cd7d5574777a71c318021cbbcc8]

I am working on ARAS 11^th version, There I do have a form with 1005 Items(html,textbox,line,Rectangle,form action….ect.). But I can’t able to add more Items than this. If I try to add new Item The entire form disappear from the workstation , And I have to delete the newly added Item to get the form back.

Is there any limitation to add number of Item in ARAS 11?

Kindly help me back.

Data integration with Solidworks via Direct PLM Connector

Hello everyone,

recently we have started a project with ARAS PLM. Our 3D drawings are done in Solidworks. For integration with ARAS we use DirectPLM connector. During the process we have noticed that saving an assembly into ARAS takes hours - main assembly crashed after 7hours. Has someone experienced the same or this is not normal and there should be somewhere connector configuration error?

Hi,

Yes there are limits. Some caused by Innovator, some by SQL database. I don´t know the exact numbers. Regular SQL tables cannot contain more than 1024 columns (=your itemtype properties). In the past xProperties supported around 4000 elements.

I don´t know the limit for elements in the form editor. But I am much more surprised that you are still able to work with the Form editor with more than 200 elements at all. Innovator 11 still contains the jumping fields glitch.

Jumping fields in Form editor. What is the root cause of this annoying glitch?

You describe that you have html elements and "lines". Do you mean you use certain html elements solely for decoration and UI design? If yes, you could dramatically reduce the amount of html elements, by combining multiple elements into one html. You don´t need a single html element for each single line element.

Look at the small screenshot in my linked post. You will note a lot of fields and gray boxes in the background for decoration and some information hint at the bottom. The decoration and the information hint are all in one single html element. Always group lines, boxes and other text you use for decoration. The html element can contain a lot of code. You can even integrate custom buttons or input fields if you want to further reduce you amount of fields.

If interested, I also plan to provide a building kit for my custom Batch Loader alternative ("PLM Underground´s DataLoader Royal"). It has a couple of useful features that the original Aras batch loader (or comparable tools from partners) don´t have:

- It´s an Excel/Txt/CSV import tool INSIDE Innovator
- It has a easy to use AML editor with syntax highlighting and error checks:

- You can specify and store import templates for various user groups. Some users may only be allowed to upload BOMs while Admins may upload something else.
- With some trick it can even upload files!
- It contains an option to erase existing content before uploading something new (great for BOM updates!)
- ...

I right now modernize the tool cause here and there the design look a bit dated and I want to optimize the tool for very large datasets (import of 100.000+ items). And it obviously misses the English language pack.
Despite these tiny tasks on the roadmap, we use the tools since 2 years on a daily basis and it just works!

Innovator Service ERROR

Hello,

I　received the following HttpRequestException error one month ago when I used Innovator Service to

run a method 1 time per minute in our system.

Error message:

’ Invalid response from Innovator Server. Error Code: System.Net.WebException’.

This error disappeared once I restarted the Innovator Service.

Is it because Innovator Service needs to be restarted periodically ?

Because, when I restart Innovator Service every day this error does not occur.

But it still appeared these few days. I found some Event Log below that maybe have something to do with this error.

Has anyone come across such a problem ?

SCIP database integration

Hi community,

especially European people here in this forum may know about the requirement that you have to pass information about SVHCs in your product to the SCIP database.

We collect SVHCs and similar environmental and compliance data in Innovator and can make reports for the individual products. But it´s not in the correct format that could be used as import file for the SCIP database. I want to build something that makes the task easier to do.

The SCIP database structure is a bit tricky (to avoid the word 'terrible'), but the task is not impossible. As alternative, it would be possible to make a REST API connection straight to the database. But I don´t need to go that far.

I am looking for people who are also interested in solving the task. Any one wants to join the project?

What is the outcome from this partnership?

We want an integration with E3 in place, with exchange of BOM and CM. this to track ECR and ECO in all levels.

This cannot be only our / MacGregor wish to have something like this in place?
