Setting Up Column Sets

The journey begins on the blank canvas pane of the form designer, where you can add Column Sets. You have options for 2, 3, or 4 Column Sets, each offering a different layout dynamic. When adding columns to an existing set, simply drag the "Column" field to your desired spot.

Customizing for Different Screen Sizes

It's essential to consider how your form will appear on different devices. The 'Wrap Columns on Small Display' option allows columns to stack vertically on smaller screens, maintaining readability and user interaction.

Incorporating Group Boxes

Group Boxes serve as visual containers for related form fields. Drag and drop these into your form layout, and then place the desired columns inside them. This helps in organizing the form and enhancing user navigation.

Columns Adjustments

Once your columns and group boxes are in place, you can fine-tune each element. Adjustments include setting the name, ratio, and the min and max widths of the columns to ensure they fit perfectly within your form's design.

Ratio	Space each column occupies relative to others in terms of width. For instance, a column ratio of "2:1" between two columns means that one column is twice as wide as the others.
Min Width	Minimum width of the column in pixels, used when screen is reduced horizontally.

You can navigate up on the hierarchy of Form > Column set/group box > column > Field using the clickable link on the top of the Detailed Pane. An example of a clickable link: Column Set 0 in the screenshot below.

They have numerous forms for different purposes, such as parts requisition, quality checks, and maintenance schedules. However, these forms, created using Classic Forms, are not optimized for various devices, leading to a cumbersome experience for employees, especially those on the factory floor using tablets or mobile devices.

To address this issue, the IT administrator of Efficient Manufacturing Inc. undertakes the Responsive Forms module. They start by understanding the differences between Classic and Responsive Forms, appreciating how the latter can adapt to different screen sizes, making it easier for the shop floor staff to input data without constant scrolling or dealing with misaligned content.

Using the Responsive Form Designer, the administrator redesigns a critical "Part Requisition Form." They add column sets and group boxes to organize the fields logically, ensuring that important fields like "Part Number" and "Quantity" are prominently displayed and easy to interact with on smaller screens. The form is then carefully packaged and linked to the "Parts" ItemType, ensuring seamless integration into the platform.

Create a new Technical Document.
1. Log into Aras Innovator.
2. Click on the Technical Documentation Application.
3. Click the New Technical Documentation button.
4. When the Technical Document tab opens:
  1. Add a Document Number.
  2. Add a Name.
  3. Select your Schema, and click OK. For this example, we chose Standard.

Add Fields to Responsive Form Designer

Field Placement

Start by selecting fields from the Unused Properties in the Element Pane. These can be text boxes, checkboxes, dropdowns, and more. Drag your chosen field into the appropriate column on your form.

Field Customization

Each field you add comes with a set of properties that you can customize in the Detailed Pane. These include the field's name, label, help text, and type. You have options like text fields and text areas, each suited for different types of input.

Name

Name of the field displayed on the designer. Inherited from ItemType property.

Label & Help

Label stands for the Field label displayed to the end users. Help is related to tooltip. For both, the possible values:

- Inherit from property: shows the label/help from the ItemType property

- Hide: label/tooltip is hidden for users

Field Type

Shows the field type based on the property data type (e.g. Text, Combobox, Number, Item, Checkbox, Image).

Only Text property type has multiple field types as follows:

• Text: A concise input field suitable for short entries.

• Text Area: A larger input space ideal for longer pieces of text or paragraphs.

Display the Classification field

Don't forget to add the classification field (named type for Part ItemType).

Indeed, some ItemTypes have different forms for different classifications. In such case, displaying the classification field on a Form not only allows the user to select a classification for each Item, but also to switch to another form depending on the selection.
