As described in its mid-term management plan, “TM-PΣ Plan,” Shibaura Machine (former Toshiba Machine) Company wanted to accelerate their cost competitiveness by optimizing procurement and manufacturing in different locations throughout the world with domestic facilities operating as "mother factories." To achieve this goal, the company required seamless collaboration across the whole product lifecycle from design, manufacturing, and sales to service, both in Japan and overseas. However, their existing product data management (PDM) system had a user interface that had been developed completely from scratch. It would have been expensive and taken a very long time to develop new features for globalization.

Shibaura Machine recognized the need to implement a new PLM system to standardize and streamline product development processes across the enterprise for company-wide collaboration and global business expansion.
