The title immediately caught my attention, "Technology: Augmented Reality on the Plant Floor" and the article got me thinking about all the possibilities the future holds for manufacturing.
Imagine this: you're on site doing maintenance on one of your products. You hold up your phone or tablet and with the touch of a finger get the entire history of the product. You know instantly when it was made, what plant manufactured it, what suppliers were used, if there are any known issues and any other relevant information connected to the product.
Where does this information come from? How is it managed? The answer lies within your PLM system.
There's no doubt this technology is coming. Soon. So, in order to take advantage of it, you must get all your ducks in a row with your PLM system now.
I'm sure it will sound cool to say your company uses augmented manufacturing but what will that really mean if you can't get real time data? Nothing.
