How Fast Can You Debug In Your PLM Solution?

If you choose to take advantage of some of the more advanced customization capabilities in Aras Innovator, then you’re probably going to get into writing custom scripts / methods.

Doing this is very powerful and really fits well with the Agile Development Methodologies. It also means that you avoid the complex programming, compiling, linking, etc. that other PLM systems force you into.

Prodeos has been cranking out some great video examples over the past several months and this a nice post that they did on Debugging methods in Aras. With their permission, I thought it’d be great for everyone to see (unedited) so here’s a repost. If you like this, you’ll want to check out their full blog and see all the other videos, examples and tips & such at Open Source PLM @ Prodeos http://www.prodeos.fr/ (Eng) Tech – Quick Debug of Custom Method in Aras Innovator

Here is a new tech article about Aras Innovator. Once again, if you’re not a tech person, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read that and watch the video. It is important if you’re in a position where you need to evaluate the time tech people will spend on a software, that you know how flexible and easy to handle a software is. This time I wanted to show a process that every developer is going through: the Debug. I haven’t met yet the perfect developer who never has to go debug because he made a mistake or sometime just because an input doesn’t correspond to the information someone else gave him. If it happens that you have some issue when you run the custom method you just made, you will be happy to have a quick and easy access to a nice debugger. And that is exactly what provides Aras Innovator because of its full web implementation and the use of .net technologies.

In this video I went back to the QR code example, where during the presentation I made a mistake, using « form » instead of « forms » which made the method crash. When I did the presentation i realised what was my mistake and I corrected it directly, but in case the issue is not that obvious, you will get the opportunity to use the debugger.
