Hi
I'm testing release process for a part. I've created an ECO for the part with revision A that promote the part status to released. After, if I edit the part and save-unlock it, the revision become B with status preliminary. At this point, i'm not able to release part B and supercede part A. Where I'm wrong?

Hi Daniele,
I'm assuming you are using the built in Life Cycle for the Part and the built in Workflow for the ECO.
If you have a look at the lifecycle for a Part it goes from Preliminary to In Review to Released throught In change to Superseded.
If you have a Part 999 Rev A at Preliminary then the ECO will promote it to Released still at Rev A.
You will not be able to edit the Part while it is in this Released State.
You then create a new ECO which takes Part 999 Rev A and promotes it through to Superseded. At the same time it creates a new revision of the Part (999 Rev B at Preliminary) so that Rev A is already superseded when Part 999 Rev B is created.
After this second ECO Part 999 Rev B is at Preliminary and can be edited and Part 999 Rev A is at superseded.
In general editing (Lock, change, Save, Unlock) an Item of any sort (Part, Document etc) when it is in a "Released" state will cause a new Revision of the Item if the Item Type is Versionable.
So Editing the Part when it is in the Released state will create the new Revision.
Does that make sense?

yes, it does make sense. I think it is only a permissions problem. I was editing the part as root, so the system gave me the possibility to edit the released part. I've tried with another user and i'm able to edit the part only in its preliminary state.
