Hi Ashok

Actually Open source it mean you doesnt have to pay for this this tool, if u get register with aras  then you  directly get license key  from it

using this key u can use aras tool forever....

Ashok,

thanks for the interest and for getting involved.  The source is available for the enterprise PLM solutions on our Project site at http://www.aras.com/communityprojects/.

One of the reasons that we refer to ourselves as ‘enterprise open source’ is that we are combining multiple software source formats.

OSI compliant open source for the full enterprise solutions together with a community source framework (source code only for a specific group, in our case “paid subscribers”) and standard commercial platforms for the infrastructure. In our case, we currently use the Microsoft technologies.

There’s a pretty good blog post that describes this at http://www.aras.comhttp://www.aras.com/Community/blogs/aras_corporate_blog/archive/2007/01/25/open-source-for-the-rest-of-us.aspx and our web site has more materials as well http://www.aras.com/technology/open-source.aspx

Hope this helps.

raviraj - This is a common misunderstanding about open source, that its just free / no cost software. actually, open source http://www.opensource.org/osd.html is about the availability of source and the freedom to use, modify and redistribute the software... we believe that it is very powerful for users/companies to be able to create, customize and share enterprise-wide business applications without restriction. That’s why we make the source for the Aras solutions freely available.

at the same time we recognize that a lot of global corporations demand confidence and security, so we have adopted a widely used structure by educational universities called Community Source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_source for the underlying framework. While it’s freely available to download and use, the source is only for the paid subscribers. This provides the confidence they demand to run Aras in mission-critical environments and highly secure scenarios.

There’s more on this at http://www.aras.comhttp://www.aras.com/Community/blogs/aras_corporate_blog/archive/2010/07/08/how-the-aras-approach-to-open-source-ensures-quality-confidence-and-corporate-security.aspx

thanks for your participation and hope this helps clear things up
