SUPPORT Q&A - Circular reference on BOM

I was surprised to see that I could add a part to it’s self and save the item. From what I can tell the system creates a new generation and allows the old generation to be included in the BOM. I thought this was a fundamental foobar that was not allowed. In my testing of this I discovered that once the item was saved there is no way other than thru SQL to correct the mistake.
Does anyone have a simple approach (method) that can be added to parts to prevent this?

Uh indeed... I guess a method bound to Parts onBeforeSave could do the job.
