Hi,
After a very rough install (issues mostly with getting database access) I have finally gotten Innovator 9.2 to run on SBS 2008 with IIS7 and SQL Server 2008. The SQL database engine is running on mixed authentication mode which seems to have solved all my access problems. I believe I am now on to solving the client side issues but this server information may shed light onto my login problems.
The first problem I see on most of my Windows 7 clients is that when I run the sdns.exe utility I still receive a 'Aras Innovator client has failed to initialize. Please, contact your system administrator to review your .NET security settings.' error. When I go to check the .net 2.0 security configuration I notice that child policies are only added to the machine trusted sites. If I push a new child policy onto the All Code block of the network and user sections as well then this 'client has failed to initialize' error goes away. So, as long as my clients have the ability to access their .net security settings manually (apparently windows 7 home does not) I am able to gain administrator access via the login window.
My problem now is that when I login to innovator via 'admin' (user) and 'innovator' (pwd) I don't know if I have full functionality. I can see all the categories of a standard (I'm assuming because there doesn't seem to be a user manual for this program) install. My first task was to assign a couple new users so that our company could begin evaluating this software. I assigned two users, one being myself with (what I thought was) full rights, and another user with standard read/update rights. I assigned both of these accounts passwords and checked the 'enable login' box.
Now when I try to login with these accounts I cannot. I also tried changing the password to the admin account and that didn't seem to take. Is there anyway to check if my install was finished correctly and that everything is working as it should? Would someone be willing to walk me through the steps of adding a user and logging in with them and changing passwords or would someone be willing to check my server install? Does anyone know where I can find a user (even rough) manual?
Thanks in advance, LUke

Hi Luke,
Not sure what is missing in your case. Did you check out our training section - guides: http://www.aras.com/university/guides.aspx and tutorials: http://www.aras.com/university/tutorials.aspx ?
If you can't get it up and running I'm happy to walk you through. Just send me a personal note in the forum where I can reach you.

Hi Patrick,
I'm sorry, I had never seen those links before. It took me quite a while, even after you shared those links, to find those pages via the homepage; they are quite buried.
I went through the basic administrator tutorial and am still not sure whether I'm not setting the users up correctly or if my installation is hosed. Another thing I am more worried about is the sdns.exe not configuring my client computers correctly to see my innovator server. That would indicate either that the sdns.exe is deficient (which doesn't seem to be the case for anyone else) or that my server installation is deficient. I'm leaning towards the later. If it is the former that would mean I need to write my own .net security config tool which isn't impossible but probably more time than I want to spend.
I will send you a message to see if you can take a look at our install.
Meanwhile if anyone has any insight or has seen these problems before I would love to hear about it.
LUke

Hi LUke,
I am not sure what privileges your users have on their machines, but you might want to try to run sdns.exe in W7 Administrator mode ("Run as administrator").
I'll drop you an email and we'll get in touch.
