I'm a student investigating whether Aras is suitable for a practical demonstration of PLM systems at my university, and I'm having some trouble with a couple of basic functions. I'm not sure whether the problems are down to configuration errors or me not being experienced enough with PLM systems to know what I'm doing.
Note: I am logged in as the admin user for all of this. Running 9.2.0 with no service packs installed as I am not a subscriber. The server is installed on my laptop running windows 7, which I am also using to log in to via the client.
Problem 1: Checking in files
I've specified a working document and managed to create documents and add files to them just fine. I am also able to check out the file and it saves it correctly to my working document. However, once I try to check the file back in, I get an error that states "failed to upload the files" and the file in the system is not updated.
Problem 2: Promoting parts
I have had no trouble creating new parts, BOM, etc., but I am unable to promote parts by right clicking on the part and selecting 'Promote'. I get the error "No Promotions available", even though the parts have a life cycle with statuses other than preliminary. I'm using the default life cycles that parts get when they are created, so it's not because I've made an incorrect/impossible life cycle or something like that. Do I need to do something else in order to be able to promote parts?
