We are looking to setup an Aras instance. I am not sure what our options are yet, but given free reign, what do you all consider the best current Windows Server OS to be running and what version of SQL Server?
I have read somewhere that Windows Server 2008 is more efficient than 2003. Also, it has a newer version of IIS. My guess is that 2008/2008 R2 is a better choice, but wanted to see if there were any hangups with that or any other input related to the OS.
Also, this should not be a very large instance to start. Does the free to use Express editions of SQL Server suffice? I think the Aras site that directs to the SQL Server download directs to 2005. You can currently get SQL Server Express 2008 R2 direct from Microsoft. Is that a better choice?

Hi Eric,
I think it is safe to say that newer is better with these choices.
2008 with SQL2008R2 will work just fine.
The only real reason for choosing SQL 2005 is if you are supporting an existing installation that you don't want to upgrade to 2008R2.
