Hi Rob,
When going over the Solution Space Vision you made mention of some Manufacturing Planning, Maintenace, Repair and Overhaul and Manufacturing execution solutions that are already in place. Are any of these available to the community?
I have a couple of customers who are interested in these solutions, or will be in time.
Regards,
Brian.

- Have any of your CAD connector partners updated/developed an NX connector for this new CAD platform you mentioned for 9.3 yet?
- I heard a rumour that Aras is in the process of developing their (your) own NX connector for Siemens NX. Is this true? If so, what is the current status or ETA for this connector?

Hi Rob,
I'm going through the Team Identity functionality to try to better understand what is and isn't possible.
I have experimented adding new Team Roles and while this seems to work I was wondering if there are any known reasons why we shouldn't do this?
I want to be able to dynamically select Members of a Team in a Workflow with greater granularity than the Team, Team Member, Team Manager designations allow.
I can also see that since permissions are cummulative it is important to work out the Item Permissions such that Owner, Creator and Manager do not interfere with Team membership. I can imagine that in a larger organisation you would want a lot of Different Team Roles rather than a lot of Different Group Identities so that you achieve the granularity you want for workflows etc. For this to work effectively you want to be able to assign one Identity to multiple roles within a team.
Can you offer any comment/insight into the above?
Cheers,
Brian.

Hi Brian -
I am aware of a number of companies using such solutions in production, but unfortunately none of them have yet contributed their solutions back to the community. I will check around to see if any of these companies are willing to share.

Hi Nian -
Our CAD partners were involved in the definition of the new platform and they are currently working on supporting it fully. We should start to see new versions of the connectors come out over the next couple months. I am aware of an existing NX connector from xPLM that will work with 9.2 if you need to evaluate it. I don't have an exact date for availability with 9.3, but I can put you in touch with xPLM if you are not already.
Aras has no current plans to develop an NX integration in house.

Hi Brian -
There are no known reasons why you shouldn't add new Team Roles. In fact, we were hoping folks like you would do some experimentation and give us feedback on how well it works for your use case and any suggestions for improvement. Our focus for the initial release of this feature was to cover the sponsor's use cases, but we certainly see that there are many opportunities for broader usage.
I agree that you're probably better off choosing to base permissions on either Creator/Owner/Manager or on Team Roles. Mixing these should work fine, but management of the Permissions could become a chore. Of course, the larger your Team/Role matrix gets the harder it could be to maintain as well. One last word of caution would be to include performance testing in your evaluation before deploying on a broad scale. Aras did quite a bit of performance testing before release, but we the dynamic nature of this feature means that we couldn't have covered every possible use case. Any results you can share on this front would be valuable in helping us do further optimization.

Hi Rob Thank you for your reply. We are aware of xPLM's connector, but we were hoping to get an alternative solution, as their connector is relatively expensive. I will contact xPLM to find out what their plans are. Regards Nianashhadvv - Monday, July 18, 2011 9:19 AM:
Hi Rob,
Where can I get detailed documentaion regarding what is new on Innovator 9.3?

Hi Ashhad V.V -
Release notes are available on the Documentation page at http://www.aras.com/support/documentation/. That's where you'll find the complete list of new features and bug fixes.
