SUPPORT Q&A - Cannot install Aras in a VMware environment

swlovett - Tuesday, June 21, 2011 10:53 AM:

We are attempting to start an eval of Aras.  I'm installing on a Win 2003 SP2 server running under VMware.  This post is an offshoot of http://www.aras.comhttp://www.aras.com/Community/forums/t/1614.aspx.  I'm starting a new thread because I think the post more accurately describes our problem.

After downloading 9.3, we are still experiencing the same problem that we had with 9.2 - when I enter the license key during the installation, the installation ends with a dialog box that says "The wizard was interrupted before Aras Innovator could be completely installed."   Like 9.2, it also generates a log file indicating that the ValidateLicenseKey routine failed.

It was suggested that the reason for the license key not validating is that the installation software (Microsoft Installer) pulls back the physical mac address even when being installed in a virtual environment.  We tried to tie the virtual machine to the physical mac but were not successful doing that. VMware returned messages to the effect that the address was out of range.  So, we continued with a virtual mac address, but in an effort to get past the installation license key validation, I got a license key based on the physical mac address.  If that was what the installation was seeing, that should work.  It did not.  Same results.  I have been led to believe that if the license key does not validate to the mac address, there should be a message to that effect from the installer.  I've never gotten any message from the installer as to what is wrong, just "the wizard was interrupted...".  Now we have tried two different virtual mac addresses and the physical address.  Has anyone installed successfully in a VMware environment? Can you tell me how you got the license key validated?

It has also been suggested to skip the license key validation step, install the software, and put the license key in the config file.  Apparently, the check performed on the config file is by the Aras software, rather than the installation software, and returns the virtual mac address.  Unfortunately, I see no way to skip the license key step.  Can anyone tell me how to do that?

Thanks.

I have installed Innovator on a VM on the Amazon cloud. These use virtual mac addresses. I had no problem installing with a licence key issued against the virtual mac address.

I know this doesn't directly help you but it will hopefully help you to rule out one issue.

Cheers,

Brian.
