SUPPORT Q&A - ECN and ECR not being numbered by server

xgecko - Wednesday, January 25, 2012 2:58 PM:

I set up a new computer for testing a scenario with a specific user and when I tried to create an ECR and an ECN neither of them were auto-assigned a number which of course lead to further issues.

How can this happen and what do I need to do to resolve it?

Update:  When I logged in as a different user the ECR number appeared but the ECN was not even visible.

Hi,

What do you mean by "neither of them were auto-assigned"? Does the creation of the item works? are you able to save, unlock & exit? Before creation it should be written "server assigned".

Did you change any customizing?

Best,

What I mean is that the number field remained blank even after saving under the user that created the records.  The ECR number did show up when I viewed the table as my admin user, but the ECN record did not show for my admin user at all.

When I create records with my admin user they are assigned numbers.

I have no customizations and am using the empty database that is shipped.

For the ECN, I think if you haven't change any identity settings, the Admin is not part of the CM identity which is able to create ECNs. So you shouldn't be able to add any ECN unless you change that setting. Regarding the ECR, the basic Can Add setup lets everybody add an ECR and the creator can then update it so I don't understand why you have this issue. What is the user you are using when not using admin? What have you set up regarding identities and permission for this user?

I made a new user with admin rights.  The user I created to test the ECN has the rights that I thought would allow it to work with ECN's and such.  I am able to create the ECN's and other change items but they are not assigned numbers when made through this user.

Since there is not really any explanation of what the different Identities do I had to shoot blindly.  Is there any such documentation covering the stock Identities?  What Identities are needed to work with the change process?
