I keep running into situations where a user cannot do certain things and it is not clear what group they need to be added to as there is no list of identities and their permissions.
This makes it very hard to make progress in evaluating the software. Can anyone point me to a resource that outlines the permission structure as it relates to Identities? Prefereably with some context?
For example, I went to create a part with my user which should have pretty much all permissions yet I cannot do so. Now I have to try adding identities to my user blindly and see what I can do. This is not a good use of my time.

Maybe I should be a bit more specific. It would be very nice to have a detailed explanation of all the various permissions and how to set all of this up. The documentation is severely lacking in this regard.

Hi,
The classic process to understand why you can or can't do certain action is the following:
- go to the itemtype definition
- go to the Can add tab to see who can create item instances from this itemtype
- go to the permission tab to see who can do what on item instances (as long as the item instance didn't receive private permissions)
In order to know who your identity belongs to, select identities and run the report "Identity Membership".
Hope this helps a bit to make your time more valuable while evaluating Aras.
