Hi community,
does anybody know if there is a plan to support sql servers other than MSSQL in the future ? (mySQL ...)
And how about the necessary licenses for a MSSQL installation - does every ARAS user need one, or do i have to use a MSSQL CPU license ? (the MS licensing notes are a litte confusing ;-)
Greetings - spontech

Hi Spontech,
Yes there is a 'plan' to support other major databases. How long it is likely to take is another question. Aras made a commitment at the May ACE 2012 event to supporting multiple browsers, multiple databases and eventually multiple operating systems (or at least browsers on most of the major operating systems. I can't remember if the server was going to be supported on non-windows OS).
Essentially every consumer of data derived from an SQL database needs to be licenced for SQL. This is how SQL Server is licenced. Depending on your requirements you may be small enough to use the "express" databases and thereby avoid the need for expensive licensing. If not then you will need SQL licences in whatever license configuration makes the most sense for your operation. That may be individual licences or CPU licences or other. There is no easy answer.
Hope this helps,
Brian.
