SUPPORT Q&A - Aras Innovator client has failed to initalize. Hosting of .NET controls inside Interent Explorer is disabled

Arasfrustration - Monday, October 28, 2013 1:58 PM:

Hi guys

Windows 7 32-bit IE10 desktop client cannot access Aras Innovator with the standard error of

Aras Innovator client has failed to initalize. Hosting of .NET controls inside Interent Explorer is disabled

. I have searched online and searched these forms and have configured IE 10 exactly as the instructions say. I have donwloaded and run the SDNS.exe program and have added the host to the trusted zone. I had the same error on the SERVER browser but got it to work by searching the forms but the same fix does not work for the clients.

If you ask me forcing users to use IE (when I have been a FF user for about 10 years now) is beyond me. Why force peole to use an inferiour product?) Anyway, does anyone have a fix for this issue. It seems like it's an issue for many users here and I can't believe it's not covered in the documentation.!

Very frustrated! I'll just have to look elsewhere for a PLM soilution I suppose. Shame on you Aras!

Hi guys,

I fixed this error by downloading .NET 4.0 as I had .net 4.5 installed on my computer. As long as you add the server to the trusted zone in IE, run the SDNS and make sure you have the IE configuration setup exactly as the instructions say it should work for you.

Also on the client I had to enter in the hostname when running the SDNS.exe ie http://aras/InnovatorServer instead of http://x.x.x.x/InnovatorServer

Hope this helps someone.

cheers

It looks like you were able to get past your issue.  As a side note, to get Innovator working with .NET 4.5 the following registry setting can be added to the client:
·         For x86 environments
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoft.NETFramework]
"EnableIEHosting"=dword:00000001
·         For x64 environments

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoft.NETFramework]
"EnableIEHosting"=dword:00000001

Regarding the browser question, Aras is in beta 3 with version 10. Version 10 beta 3 supports the following firefox browsers:

o    Mozilla Firefox 17 ESR on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)

o    Mozilla Firefox 17 ESR on Microsoft Windows 7

If you are a subscriber, i believe that you can get access to the beta.
