SUPPORT Q&A - Exporting a drawing Package

spolen - Friday, July 11, 2008 8:09 AM:

Hi,

I was approached about exporting a drawing package, and when I researched this subject, I came across the exporting a package, but when I went to the Administration folder under item types/actions, I don't have the capability to import/export.  Do I need to order a CD, or is there a download for this action?  And if so, does this function have the capability of taking a top level BOM and exporting all documents associated with the top level drawing?

Thanks,

Sue

You can download the toolkit for package management, including the documentation, from the community projects site.  Look for the Solutions Upgrade Tool.  (http://www.aras.com/communityProjects/default.aspx)

This tool is primaraly intended for packaging the metadata of the database, and not the instance data, though.  I am not sure it will meet your needs.  I suppose it depends on what you want to do with the export once it is out of the system, but I suspect you are better off writing a custom method for this export.

Thanks for the heads up.  It will still help when doing a data dump, instead of having to enter everything manually, which we have had to do since adopting Innovator.  I'll see if IT can come up with a script to help me with my needs.

Thanks Again!
