SUPPORT Q&A - Passwords expired on environment using LDAP

We have a QA environment set up that uses Windows authentication.  It had been working, but when one of our administrators tried signing in last night, it told him his password had expired and gave him a screen to create a new one. (I'd have put a picture of the window here, but it won't let me)  A couple of us tried and are getting the same problem.   But not everyone has this problem.   I logged in as innovator admin (which does not use Windows authentication) and I don't see anything about passwords expiring.  What is wrong?
