SUPPORT Q&A - most items read only - can't edit despite being root super user

heidi - Wednesday, September 3, 2014 10:42 AM:

Hi there

I am new to Aras.

I can't seem to edit much besides the existing product and part lists. I cant edit item types, or permissions or identities, most of these are "read only". I am logged in as the root super user.

I am wanting to add another property to a part as in the demo video.

Please help :(

Thanks

Heidi

Hi Heidi,

Super User might not have permission to edit these items.

Can you try to the admin login? (password by default is innovator)

A good tip to see check permission on an item

  • Open the item you wish to edit.
  • Select View (Under the main menu View > Permissions)

  • You can now see who has access to Get / Update / Delete that item.
  • Right click to view an Identity to see who is a member of the group.

In the example above Innovator Admin has permission to edit the Part Itemtype. Super User does not.

Hi Dave

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I had tried admin with no success as well. I see your window says "Unlocked: read only". Mine just says "read only". I have tried to set permissions but everything is just read only. Is there somewhere you "unlock" like you have done? I'll have a look again.

Even for the item types I can edit, certain fields are locked, i.e. for the part I cant edit costs. Doesnt matter whether I am logged in as admin or root.

Hi Heidi,

Sounds like you have figured it out!

I have modified the client source code to show that  'Read Only' means the item is unlocked in Aras (When the item is locked it shows Locked: Editable). It was confusing ours users :)

duh! I am being a chop, sorry. You click the unlock button!

Also found out that cost is a read only field! have to go via the BOM on that one, explained in help file.
