Hi all,
My mistake - made a bit of a blunder here, I mistakenly deleted an ECO that was currently in progress (logged in as super user) and as a result, I have a part that is now stuck at 'In Review, Rev B.'
I need to either get this part back to Rev A, Release - or deleted completely to start again.
If I try to delete, or purge the part - I can't because it's referenced elsewhere, which is in the historic generations of another parts BOM, generation 8 and 13 to be specific.
If I go into the other parts revision history, and delete the BOM relationship in gen 8 and 13, I'm still unable to delete the In Review part, as next time I look back where I've just deleted the relationship from, it is still there...
I can't think of any way to now delete this part - sitting there In Review. I can't purge it, I can't delete it, I can't manually release it as it's not preliminary, I can't promote it as no promotions available...
I've spent a good few hours tearing my hair out, now I truly am stuck....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi jtw
Try manually promoting the part.
You can either
- Add yourself as a member of Aras PLM identity.
- Modify the part lifecycle to add additional paths for an admin user to promote (watch out for any pre/post methods that run for the Aras PLM path, you should also duplicate these)

Hi Dave,
This dosen't appear to solve the issue - I've added (and confirmed I have) myself to the Aras PLM identity. When trying to manually promote (right click > promote), I still recieve the "no promotions available." message.
I'll have a play now with the second option, modifying the part lifecycle.
Thanks
Julian

Hi Julian,
Did you log in and out of Aras?
Dave
jtw11 - Monday, October 6, 2014 8:26 AM:
Hi Dave,
Logging in and out has allowed me to promote the part to Rev B, Released - however, I now need to purge it back to Rev A, Preliminary - so that I can fix the mistake. However, I still cannot purge - as the part is used in historical generations of another part, which for some reason - I cannot seem to delete.
I can do a Where-used, find the offending generation, delete it from there - then if I look in that generation, it has reappeared. So I'm still stuck with somewhat of a 'dead' part entry.
Thanks for your help thus far!

Hi Julian,
What mistake do you need to fix?

Hi David,
Basically - I've got a part at Rev B, Released - which I accidently missed out adding some CAD documents to. So I need to add these documents (which are also Rev B, Released), without uprevving the part to Rev C.
So - I see two options;
a) find out a way to purge back to Rev B, Preliminary - add the parts, then release the part again.
or
b) (the preferred solution) find a way to edit the released part, without up-revving it. I'd much prefer to go down this route, as I can see us finding ourselves in situations where we need to add additional drawings etc to a part, (not revising, but adding), or adding documents etc. Is this possible OOTB behaviour in Innovator, perhaps having a minor revision - so it would become Rev B.1 or similar?
It would be nice for the parts in the database to always reflect the actual physical part revision, i.e. only up-rev when a change results in a physically different part. I.e., say we change a drawing, making it clearer - but it has no actual effect on the part, I don't want the part to up-rev, but only a minor up-rev.
Seems the course of the question has changed somewhat...
Really appreciate your help Dave.
Regards,
Julian.

HI Julian,
Have a look at the lifecycle of the Part Itemtype. There should be a transition to Manual Change.
Once you promote to manual change, you can make changes to the Part without increasing Major Revision. Promote back to Released once complete.
Again you must be a member of ArasPLM.
There is a project on minor revision handling. See below

Hi David,
I will give this a shot today, and feedback - thank you.

Hi David,
This worked to some extent - however, I've got the same problems with the actual CAD files I wish to attach back to the part. They are one revision level higher than they should be (got that wrong in my last post, I've actually purged the part back to A, but the CAD is at B), but I cannot purge these parts as I get the error "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: criteria".
So I've got the part promoted to manual change, however - I don't want to just add the wrong CAD to it.
Once I can work out how to purge CAD documents, the problem will finally be solved.
I also cannot purge normal documents, I get the same error...

HI Julian,
Sorry, I'm not getting email notifications of these forum posts.
I don't purge items usually, I just tested in a database and I get the same error as you.
I was not able to find the source of the problem when I did a quick check.
I'll let you know if I find more information.
Dave.
