SUPPORT Q&A - Beginner's workflow questions

edm - Thursday, September 18, 2008 11:07 AM:

Hi,

I'm new to Innovator and I'm trying out the workflow feature.

I have two questions that I can't find answer in the help document:

1. After I create a workflow map, how do I start it ( start an instance) ?

2. Can I attach files in an activity when processing a workflow?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi edm -

  1. Workflows are normally started when you create a new item (an ECR for example).  To do it this way, edit an ItemType and attach your Workflow Map as a Default on the Workflows tab.  You can also launch a workflow when an item reaches a certain Life Cycle State.  To do it this way, edit the Life Cycle Map, choose the state and set the Workflow field to your map.  There are also API calls to launch a workflow if you need to.
  2. Files are normally attached to the item controlled by the workflow (like an ECR).  In the InBasket, right click on an activity and choose Open Item, then lock and edit the item.
