APPLICATION - PRODUCT ENGINEERING - Affected Items Description

Ron - Tuesday, October 7, 2008 11:35 AM:

I have a request to add the description of the affected items for the ECR/ECN forms. Adding a new properties called Description to the tabs of the form is no problem, but I am not sure how to populate the description of the affected item. I could get the description if the user was to use the Affected Items form, nut they do not always use this form to enter affected items to the ECR/ECN.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ron

Hi Ron -

Can you clarify a little?  Are you looking for the description of the affected Part/Document?  Or the was/is description of the Affected Item?  Or something else?

Regards -

Rob

Hi Rob

Yes I am looking for the description of the affected items (Parts/Docs), description of the superseding would be nice but not fully needed. (90% of the time it is just a change or release of new items)

When you have a ECR/ECN with lots of items on it, the description field would be very nice to help those who need to review the items.

Thanks

Ron

Hi Ron -

Try using a foreign property:

  1. Edit the Affected Item ItemType and add a new property with Data Type=Foreign
  2. Click on the Data Source cell and you should get a dialog with all the item properties on Affected Item.  Expand affected_id and double-click on the name property (or whichever one you want)
  3. Adjust the Sort Order so that the column appears where you want it (300 would be a good starting point) and make sure Hidden2 is unchecked
  4. Save the Affected Item ItemType, open your ECN and the column should appear

You could easily do the same for the superseding item if you want.

Hope that helps -

Rob

Hi

Does that really work and how

Thanks

Yes it works great and only takes a few minutes to configure, just follow Rob's instructions. I also added the description for the superseded items.

The descriptions will not show until you save the ECR/ECN.
