I would like to edit a method. When I go to Administration -> Methods and double-click the method I want to edit a new window opens and I get a prompt to install the add-on ArasEditCab.CAB. However, when I click "Install ActiveX Control..." it doesn't install and all I get is a blank window.I added the URL to the "Trusted Sites" zone in IE 7 and enabled all of the relevant security settings I believe to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem? Were you able to get it to work?
Thanks,
Matt

Matt,
This is a problem we have seen on a few occasions. The fix is a simple change to one of yoru IE settings and you should be able to revert back. For the security settings in your trusted site zone enable "Automatic Prompting for File Download" under the Downloads section. You should now be prompted to download the file. After it sucessfully downloads you should be able to disable this setting if it is necessary to be disabled.
If it downloads successfully then stops working after you re-disable the setting you may need to change your IE Security settings to permanently allow Automatic Prompting for File Download.
Hope this helps,
Sean

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I first tried enabling "Automatic Prompting for File Download", but it still didn't work. However, I noticed there was also a setting called "Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls". I enabled this setting too and then I got the prompt to install the file and everything worked. Thanks,
Matt

Dear Aras team members:
We have a similar question about download file, when we open Valut file,
If client's IE security settings: trusted site zone "Automatic Prompting for File Download" is Disable,
There will be a javascript error "windows.aras.parentArasObj is null or not an object". Client can't open file.
If we Enable "Automatic Prompting for File Download" , Vault file can open or download to client successful,
We would like to know , if we want to open vault files, "Automatic Prompting for File Download" Enable(this item is essential or optional?)
Do you have another solution to solve this question?

Hi,
I, too, am facing this problem while trying to edit methods. A blank blue screen appears with a red cross mark at the top left corner in editor area. I have followed all the steps given in Client configuration and in this thread as well, but to no avail.
OS: Windows XP Prof SP3
Browser: IE 7
Software: Innovator 9.2.0 Build 5562
I have installed Innovator first and then upgraded my browser to IE7 from IE6. I hope this does not make any difference to the Method editor.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sama

This problem can be solved by upgrading your .NET framework. It does not work with .NET framework 2.0. It works with .NET framework 3.5
