APPLICATION - PRODUCT ENGINEERING - Deleting PR's, ECR's, ECN's

Brent - Wednesday, October 15, 2008 1:53 PM:

We're running Innovator in a trial mode to determine how well it will meet our needs.  In that mode, we've generated some bogus parts, PR's, ECR's, and ECN's.  Is there any reason I can't change the permission's of these items to enable the admin to delete them when we are done with them - i.e., set the set the permissions the same as the PLM identity and just delete?  Will there be remnants or lingering broken relationships?

Thanks in advance for any help..

Brent

Hi Brent, and welcome to the community.  There should be no problem editing the permissions to give delete access to admins.  There are protections in place to prevent broken relationships, meaning you will likely have to delete things top-down (top level assemblies, then sub-assemblies, then components).  Otherwise, I don't see any gotchas in deleting test items.  I would, however, suggest that starting with a clean database would be a good idea if/when you go into a production environment.

Good luck -

Rob

Thanks for the reply Rob -

I had originally planned on either wiping the database or just reinstalling everything prior to going live, but so far, we've entered very little info and we've already learned enough that this looks promising, so we may start pushing real data sooner than I thought, and it would just be easier to delete the little info we have and start going.  Plus it means I don't have to wait on the IT department again... the biggest reason.
