APPLICATION - PRODUCT ENGINEERING - building a BOM

ejmoska - Thursday, March 3, 2016 7:27 AM:

Hello,

Our Company is offering very flexlible products , lets say we have a product consisting of 15 parts, but 10 parts can be optional, according to order. What would be the best way to build BOM with aras?

Hello,

Need more data in order to consult here.

If your products are "Built to Order" then you can start with a template product (that has a fixed number of non-optional parts) and for every product that is sold to specific customer, you can clone the product and add your optional parts.

Alternatively you could implement some type of relation between your product and a customer where the optional parts are added on the relationship to the customer, so each customer carries a different list of optional parts, and a customized BOM report is able to collect each product specific BOM.

The other option is if you are using alternatives or substitutes which is a different case. If you always have 15 parts but the parts may change when changing a customer then I would use the built-in support of Aras for alternatives and substitutes.
