APPLICATION - PRODUCT ENGINEERING - Why a Manufacturers instance can not be created

Robin Bai - Tuesday, April 21, 2009 3:51 AM:

The software I am using is 9.1.0 Build: 5488

I tried to create a item for Sourcing/Manufacturers but found the new item icon on the tool bar was in disabled status.

To create a instance of Manufacturers is a OOTB function and the document, Aras Product Engineering, also guids me to do so. Why the new item icon was disabled? How to slove the problem and let the item be created?

1. Give Can Add permissions to Manufacturers ItemType (login as admin, go to AdministrationItemTypes in TOC, edit Manufacturers ItemType and assign Can Add for appropriate identities).

2. Manufacturers ItemType has Is Dependent=1. I'm not absolutely sure, but it seems the icon is disabled in this case too. You should set Is Dependent=0.

3. Manufacturers ItemType has IsRelationship=1 and UseSrcAccess=1. You should set UseSrcAccess=0 and assign Can Add permissions.

Hi Robin, and welcome.  By default, only members of the Component Engineering Identity may add new Manufacturers.  The easiest way to enable this is to go to Administration/Identities, edit the Component Engineering Identity and add your user's Identity as a Member.  Then log out and back in, and the New button should be enabled.

Hope that helps -
