SUPPORT Q&A - Windows Server 2008 Install Issue

jmidc - Thursday, May 21, 2009 11:08 AM:

I did an install of Aras on a Windows server 2008 and setup my client on a Windows 7 system.  Everything seemed to install properly however when I attempt to access the system I receive an error of "Server Error in '/InnovatorServer' Application.".  If I look at the event log on the server I see an error that seems to indicate that the virtual directory isn't set as an application ... but if I take a look in IIS at the InnovatorServer virtual directory it is set as an application "Aras Innovator AppPool ASP.NET 2.0".  Any help would be appreciated!

Event Info from server:

Exception information:
    Exception type: ConfigurationErrorsException
Exception message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. (C:Program FilesArasInnovatorInnovatorclientweb.config line 13)

Request information:
    Request URL: plm/.../default.aspx
    Request path: /innovatorserver/Client/default.aspx
    User host address: 172.16.11.2

1) Windows 7 RC and/or BETA are not a supported client operating systems, and so I do not know if Aras Innovator will load on your client properly.

2) You should check your Roles and Featues for IIS, to ensure you have enabled ASP and ASPX pages in your installation.

Try browsing to this URL to confirm that your installation is running at all:

plm/.../mini-diag.htm

plm/.../innovatorserver.aspx

Do either of these pages load?

1) I've tried with an XP/IE7 client and the same error was generated.

2) All components of the Web Server (IIS) role are installed except for IIS6 support.

plm/.../mini-diag.htm loads fine but using the diagnostic links generate the same error as plm/innovatorserver/

plm/.../innovatorserver.aspx generates the same error.

I saw that you are certified for 2008 ... are there any specific install guides for Server 2008 server & IIS7?
