SUPPORT Q&A - Adding viewer????????

Jeremylilly - Wednesday, March 7, 2007 5:16 PM:

Hello:

I’m sure this is a relatively easy fix, but I need to view 3D proe files. I am trying to add ProductView to Innovator.

Bill - Wednesday, March 7, 2007 5:43 PM:

The simplest fix is to add the File Type to Innovator and simply allow the client to use a local viewer to open the file.

1) Log into Innovator as an administrative user

2) From the TOC select AdministrationFileTypes

3) From the main toolbar select New Item

4) In the Viewer form, fill in the following values

a. Name - Name of the file type

b. Ext. - File extention (bat, html, jpg, etc)

c. Mime type - mime type for the given file extension

5) Save, Unlock, and Close

If you wish to add a new Viewer on the server:

1) Log into Innovator as an administrative user

2) From the TOC select Administration

Viewers

3) From the main toolbar select New Item

4) In the Viewer form, fill in the following values

a. Name = Name of the viewer

b. Description = Description of the viewer

c. Viewer URL = URL to the viewer.  Any viewers shuld be installed under the InnovatorClientscriptsviewers folder, and the URL can be called from there as something like viewers/Aras.html

5) Save, Unlock, and Close

To then associate the new viewer with the file type:

1) Log into Innovator as an administrative user

2) From the TOC select Administration

File Type

3) Edit the File Type

4) Select the View With relationship tab

5) From the relationship toolbar, select New Relationship

a. Search for and select the new viewer.

b. Select green checkmark "Return Selected" button from the search dialog toolbar.

6) Save, Unlock, and Close

Hope this helps!

Hi all;

Sorry, this is still unclear.  How does a mime type get associated with a specific viewer?  For Autocad (.dwf)

files, I want to specify a viewer which is installed on the client. The

locally installed viewer is C:Program FilesAutodeskAutodesk Design ReviewDesignReview.exe.  I want

to use it to open any .dwf file.  The example I'm using is document 001-01847-ACAD,

file Inventor_Engine_3d.dwf (provided with the 9.10 database).  This file opens fine with DesignReview.exe when

launched from outside Innovator.  When I try opening it in Innovator, I get the error

The extension of the file you are trying to open does not have an Innovator FileType associated with it.

Please contact your Innovator Admin to have a FileType defined for the extension. You may still use the File/Download menu item on this form to download the file to your working directory.

I checked in AdminFile Types.  Innovator already has a mime type specified for .dwf files.  What i don't see, is

how to associate this particular viewer, to this particular file type.  How do I configure the vault to launch this one.

I see that the Actify Spinfire viewer has ./viewers/Actify.html specified.  This is the only viewer listed in

my 9.10 sample database.  It it necessary to create an HTML file, in order to launch a client-side browser?

Thanks very much.

Hi,

How to set 'Ext' for ProE files which have extensions in .prt.* or .asm.*  format?

Regards,

natek64 - Wednesday, September 17, 2008 12:14 PM:

c. Viewer URL = URL to the viewer.  Any viewers shuld be installed under the InnovatorClientscriptsviewers folder, and the URL can be called from there as something like viewers/Aras.html

When you say "installed under the InnovatorClientscriptsviewers folder" you obviously don't  mean physically installed there, right?  The only files physically located in that folder are HTML files.  I'm assuming they contain scripts to call the default viewers associated with the file extension.  But are those viewers local on the clients machine?   I have another viewer for CAD files that I'd like to have on the server for those users who don't have CAD modeling software.  Our IT policy prevents users from installing apps so even if they wanted to download the viewer from a third party they couldn't install it.  How can I "install" it on the server?  Is it as simple as creating a specific HTML file for the viewer?

 Thanks,

Nate K

I believe you should follow the steps below.
1. Create HTML file (name it for example as AutodeskDesignReview.html) like ./viewers/Actify.html to be related with "C:Program FilesAutodeskAutodesk Design ReviewDesignReview.exe". Put the file into Client/Scripts/viewers directory of Innovator.
2. Go to TOCAdministrationViewers and create new viewer (name=Autodesk Design Review, Viewer URL=./viewers/AutodeskDesignReview.html).
3. Go to TOCAdministrationFileTypes and edit the instance with name=AUTOCAD (ext is dwf). Pick the created viewer in View With tab and save.
-> Now dwf files are associated with the created AutodeskDesignReview.html in Innovator.

This comes down to the individual viewer software.  If it has a component that must be automatically downloaded and installed Aras Innovator won't get around that.  There does need to be some URL to connect to this software, but I can't say what that would be not having seen the product you have.

Thanks for the replies in this topic, it helps me a lot; but I've some questions either.

1. I've followed the steps in Bill's post. But i can't see PDF files in IE window. What should i write in  InnovatorClientscriptsviewersPdfViewer.html file ? How can i get related this file with AcrobatReader.exe ?

2. Where should i install Adobe Acrobat Reader; in server side or client side ?

Thanks,

Erkan
