how to add a newly created itemtype to a package definition?? i could add itemtype to package definitions by adding the ID of itemtype. is there any other way..

Login as admin. You can use Main MenuToolsAdminAdd To Package Definition command to add an instance (of ItemType in your case) to a new or existing package.
