dschaefer - Thursday, September 17, 2009 3:24 PM:
Followed the installation instructions but cannot seem to get the Test installation running.
I get a warning "Internet explorer has blocked this site from using an ActiveX control in an unsafe manner".
Also "Aras Innovator client has failed to initialize. Please, contact your system administrator to review your .NET security settings".
Popup blocker is disabled in IE, ActiveX control settings are as described in the installation instructions.
Help!

dschaefer,
The set up your client machine there are several things you need to do.
The first is you must add a .NET security policy to your machine to allow Aras Innovator. This can be done using the SDNS tool located at the Aras Downloads page (http://www.aras.com/support/downloads/)
The instructions for adding the.NET security policy can be found here (http://www.aras.com/support/documentation/9.1.0/Installation%20and%20Configuration/Aras%20Innovator%209.1%20-%20.NET%20Client%20Configuration.pdf)Once you have added the .NET security policy you will need to add your Aras Innovator URL to the Trusted Zone of Internet Explorer and set up the Trusted Zone as outlined in the Internet Explorer Client Configuration document which you can find here (http://www.aras.com/support/documentation/9.1.0/Installation%20and%20Configuration/Aras%20Innovator%209.1%20-%20Internet%20Explorer%20Client%20Machine%20Configuration.pdf)
I hope this information helps.

Dave,
My next guess is that the MSXML4.dll is not loading properly. A quick fix to work around this is to make some additional changes to your Trusted Zone IE settings. You can make these adjustments for the interim to get Aras Innovator initially loaded, but following that you may revert to the settings as outlined in the document.
ActiveX Controls and Plugins
- Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls - Enabled
- Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls - Enabled
- Initialize and script aActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting -Enabled
Downloads
- Automatic Prompting for File Download - Enabled
- File download -Enabled
After you have made these changes Aras Innovator should now load. The usual culprit is the MSXML4.dll occasionally is not loaded properly during initial load and needs permissions opened up for this load.
Hope this does the trick for you

Sean,
That did it - ActiveX "not marked" and Download Auto Prompting needed to be set (others were already per the install documentation).
Thanks,
Dave

We're having this same issue on one of our client workstations. If I change the ActiveX Controls and Plugins as Sean suggests it lets me in, but I cannot revert back to settings as outlined in the document.
Any other ideas besides leaving the settings this way going forward for this one client?
Thanks,
Lexi
