SUPPORT Q&A - License Key is invalid

silverbrook - Tuesday, January 26, 2010 6:32 PM:

Hi,

I've just moved an entire hosted Aras VM to a new VM host.  Move went ok, however the new VM has a different MAC address which has invalidated the license.  If I obtain a new license for the new server, now can I install without running through the entire Innovator setup process?

Thanks.

Bill - Monday, February 1, 2010 6:14 PM:

You can simply update the key value in the InnovatorServerConfig.xml found in the root of your existing install.

Thanks Bill.

When I saw your post I actually looked at the last License Key email I recieved which also explains how

to change the license.  Silly me.

Hi SilverBrook & Bill,

I am facing the same issue what you had faced sometime back.

I have got new License key for the new MAC address and updated the InnovatorServerConfig.xml file. And I have restarted all the services and tried to login I'm getting the same error message "License Key is Invalid."

Have you done something else other than updating the InnovatorServerConfig.xml file?

Please reply...

THanks,

Sherene

Hi Sherene,

Updating the InnovatorServerConfig.xml should be all you need to do.  Just confirm that the MAC address you entered when creating the license corresponds to the new server, then restart IIS.

WORKAROUND:  I employed this method before Bill enlightened me on how to re-configure the license correctly.  I also had issues with the Aras Innovator License request page rejecting as invalid any MAC address the ESXI VM gave me. So I tricked the server (Windows 2008 Server) into thinking it was using the MAC address associated with the old license. To do this;

1. Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections

2. Right-click the enabled network interface and select "Properites"

3. Click the "Configure" Button in the Local Area Connection Window

4. Click the "Advanced" Tab, and select from the "Property" list; "Locally Administered Addresses"

5. On the Right hand side, check the "Value" radio button, and enter the MAC Address used with the previously working license. (Use HEX only, no spaces or dashes).

6. Hit Ok, Ok etc until all your changes have been saved

No reboot should be necessary.  The InnovatorServerConfig.xml file that was working for your previous installation, should now work on the new OS.  This implementation of a "spoofed" MAC address is done at the OS level only.  It should not cause any network issues for the server running the original MAC address.

Hi Silverbrook,

Thanks for your reply. I'm using Windows 2003 server. I could find out Local Area Connection properties window. There I clicked Configure button. then Cliked the Advanced tab, there I could not find "Locally Administered Addresses". In the right hand side Value dropdown list is there. THere is no option given to enter the MAC Address.  Am I went wrong somewhere?

Thanks & Regards,

Sherene

If this is a new installation, please try the following:

1) Remove the existing install

2) Download the InnovatorSetup.msi again

3) Install again

Hi Chris,

This is not a new installation. Lot of customizations I have done in that installation. It takes lot of time to customize the features in new installation. is there any alternate solution?

Thanks!

Issue resolved off-line.  Wrong version number in license key requested.

Hi everyone

I got the same problem, I install Aras 9.1 2 months ago, but today I was unable to access Aras, and the message "License Key is Invalid" was displayed.

¿How can I correct this problem?

Thanks in advance
