I have a question about how we might make relationships permanently point to the specific generation of a part.
We started with an item type for shipped parts, which has a hard fixed relationship to the part sent out. This is good most of the times, as the item always points to the shipped version rather than the current release of a part.
Sometimes, a customer will send the part back for an upgrade of a specific component. If we make a note of the upgrade in a log relationship for the shipped part, and do a save/unlock/close, the part relationship updates to the newest version rather than the one in the original package. Is there a good way to maintain the link to the original part while still allowing changes to be made to the shipped parts record?
