Modifying the "Products/Models" items

  First, I'm new to this, so thank you for your professionalism and patience. Its proving really hard to self teach this platform... I simply can't google my way through it, so I have arrived here. I am trying to implement ARAS at our company. I am trying to do as little custom development as possible. To that end I am trying to use the Products/Models system to handle all of our sales documentation. While I can customize the "model" item type, I can add new properties. File links... such and such. What I would like to do is give the model its own form so that double clicking it in the model list opens the "model" item form. From there I want to add tabs for different item type attachments. (e.g. Sales Documents tab, Technical Documents Tab... etc. etc.). So here are the problems.

1. When I create a new form for the "model" item type, the form doesn't have any of the model information available to place inside of the form. Its totally blank.
2. I have added a relationship to allow attachments of documents under a "documents" tab, but that doesn't show up in the form.

Does anyone have any feedback on why the normal functionality isn't working in the out of the box "products/models" implementations?
