What data is sent home to Aras by Innovator Release 2024? What is "Usage Data"?

Hi community,

one reason why I never installed Release 2024 was the new Aras Innovator Community Edition License Agreement.
I was especially confused by the "Usage Data" section.  --> "Aras owns the usage data derived from the operation of the Licensed Software"

This part does not appear in any of the subscriber versions. Does anyone know the background and meaning of this sentence?

I asked Aras some time ago, but never got any answer.

Thanks for any hint!

  • Hi Riaan,

you are probably right. According to AI "Usage data refers to information collected about how users interact with a product, service, or system."

I mainly brought up the topic because the License Agreements have always been somewhat vague about what data is actually sent back to Aras. I mainly found this sentence:

"From time to time, information about your license key(s), the version of the Licensed Software, the operating environment and the language packs you have installed may be transmitted by the installed Licensed Software to Aras."

But with Innovator 12 a new "PhoneHomeCall" feature was introduced which collects additional statistics.

I'm not certain whether the term “Usage Data” includes these specific statistics or refers to a different type of data altogether.

Unfortunately since I12 none of the subscriber/open release license agreements were updated regarding the PhoneHome module. I’ve been addressing this issue repeatedly since 2020 with various stakeholders, including partners. My most recent attempt was in 2024, but the feedback has consistently been that no changes are necessary. However, I remain unconvinced. Collecting data without clear consent can raise concerns or, in the worst case, cause unnecessary complications.

I even wished Innovator would make the collected statistics available directly within Innovator. Some of them would be really be helpful for admins!
