Hi Gopikrishnan, thank you for your reply.  I don't see the option you've screenshotted in the update tool for Innovator 12.  May I ask where/how you brought up this menu?

From your screenshot, I can understand QMS is partially installed in system. Follow below steps and let me know how it behaves

Navigate to downloaded folder (mostly C:\ProgramData\Aras\ArasUpdate\QMS\12.0.1171\Imports\QMS\Import\QMS_QS\Identity)

Open Quality.xml in notepad++

Change action="merge" from action="add"

Save and Close File

Follow the same manual install steps (follow the steps in my previous reply)

Hi Gopikrishnan,

Thanks for your rapid reply.  I updated the file and changed all instances of add to merge, and am now getting a different error message.

This seems to be failing on UPDATE rather than INSERT, so at least it's actually attempting to merge it this time. Does this indicate anything to you?  Might you have any further suggestions about what to try next?  Many thanks for all your help!!

Can you check the installation document in this folder. Check are you missing any steps. Also there are steps for manual installation.

I'll do that (again). This seems particularly odd since I'm using a fresh install of the latest release of Innovator and it's the official sample database that I'm trying to update -- this is the definition of plain vanilla.

I'd love to know what tables these database errors are referring to since it seems these errors might be easily resolved by deleting the record(s) that are causing the constraint violation. Any suggestions there?

You can navigate to Administrators --> Identity --> Search for Quality and try deleting it in UI

Thanks for that suggestion, I'll give it a shot.  To confirm I understand, I should right click on the Quality record and select Delete All Versions, is that correct?

Without your assistance I'd still be completely lost -- instead of mostly lost ;) -- and even more frustrated. Thank you very much!!

Yes, you are correct. But before selecting delete all versions, can you check Where Used of this identity. If it is used in some item type, then system will not allow you to delete this.

Is this your local environment ?. If so, give a try. else take db backup and try deleting it

It's not local but it is a dev environment set up exclusively to test out Aras so there won't be collateral damage to any production data if that's what you're worried about (and thank you for being prudent and worrying about that!).  I appreciate your generous help tremendously.  I'll give that a shot and let you know how it turns out.

Quick question: should I delete the file C:\ProgramData\Aras\ArasUpdate\QMS\12.0.1171\Imports\QMS\Import\QMS_QS\Identity\QMS.xls or restore it to its original values?

Once the identity is deleted, you can try installing it through ARAS Update tool. 

Delete QMS folder from here C:\ProgramData\Aras\ArasUpdate\

The update tool generated an error but the manual process from above seemed to mostly do the trick. 

However it won't let me create an NCR.  Is this maybe a defective install as well?

As you can see, the Create New NCR button is greyed out.

No. It might be mostly due to permission.

Navigate to Administrators --> ItemTypes --> Search and Open NCRs. 

Navigate to Can Add tab

Check who can add NCRs.

Add your user account / Super User to required identity to get access to create

Relogin to application before trying to create NCRs.

I quickly checked the Item type XML  for NCR item type and members of Quality identity can able to add this NCRs. So,

Navigate to Identities search for Quality.

Lock and in the Members relationship add Super User or Your user account

Save Unlock the identity

Relogin to application and check

I did the first step but don't understand where to do the subsequent steps.

If I double click on the entry above, I get the following...

I am logged in with the admin account; however, I don't see where/how to "Lock" that record.

Click Edit on the top left corner and click the highlighted icon in the members tab. Search Super User and add to that. Save the Identity (Save icon should be near to Edit I believe)
